Rabbi Arnold L. Bienstock comes to Salisbury by way of Carmel, Indiana where
he was rabbi at Congregation Shaarey Tefilla for thirteen years. Before that, he
was rabbi at Temple Bnai Israel in Toledo, Ohio and spent four years at Temple
Israel in Portsmouth, New Hampshire in the early 1980s. At each congregation,
he developed programs in music and education and trained numerous bar and
bat mitzvah students, both thirteen year olds and adults.
He has also taught Bible study and Biblical Hebrew at various colleges and
universities including Butler University, Ball State University and the Christian
Theological Seminary. He has written several articles and has been published
in The Indianapolis Star, The Jewish Post and Opinion and other publications.
Rabbi Bienstock holds an honorary Doctor of Divinity ( honoris causa) from the
Jewish Theological Seminary, New York. He earned his rabbinical ordination
from the Jewish Theological Seminary and well as an MS in Jewish studies and
a BHL in Talmudic Studies. His B. A. is in anthropology, earned at Columbia
University where he was magna cum laude. He has also studied at Hebrew
University in Jerusalem and the Center for Jewish Education in the Diaspora.
While in Indiana, Rabbi Bienstock was active in community activities such
as being a Jewish prison chaplain, working with the African-American and
Evangelical Initiatives, participating on a medical ethics review committee at the
Clarian North Hospital, organizing a committee for a Conference on the Aging,
and chairing the Interfaith Alliance.
He has four lovely daughters of whom he is immensely proud.
In August of 2010, he brought all that energy and experience to Beth
Israel in Salisbury, Maryland; were looking forward to growing together.
